I think that the design environment today, and really art in general is centered on reaction. That is that far too many people do not think towards the needs of their expression and instead are focused on adapting to new visual styles which have gained popularity and effects which are cool. The result of which is that we are surrounded with a new form of bad art. Work that may be visually and technically beautiful, but are in execution devoid of meaning. There are countless examples of this, especially on sites such as tumblr being inundated with infographics or typography posters consisting ofa short sentence worth of content. I don’t wish to say that these forms are by default bad, they are just common examples of design being done for arts sake rather than being thought out conceptually as design.
